  • RETRIEVED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES FOR CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE, CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE, AND BANK 1 CATALYTIC CONVERTER INEFFICIENT. THIS IS CONCERNING BECAUSE WE HAVE TWO ADJACENT CYLINDERS MISFIRING, AND WE HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF HAVING OVERHEATED DUE TO LOW COOLANT. PERFORMED BLOCK TEST DUE TO OTHER ITEM – COOLING SYSTEM LEAK. RESULT: NEGATIVE. BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF BLOWN HEAD GASKET AT THIS TIME, IT ONLY MEANS THAT WE WERE NOT ABLE TO DETECT ANY COMBUSTION GASSES IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. DURING BLOCK TESTING, NOTICED COOLANT AND FILL AREA CORRODED AND COOLANT CAP (ON ENGINE) SEALS ARE FLATTENED. RECOMMEND, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ITEMS RECOMMENDED, THAT COOLANT BE FLUSHED, THERMOSTAT BE REPLACED, AND COOLANT CAP (ON ENGINE) REPLACED. FOR MISFIRING, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE SPARK PLUGS FOR INSPECTION AND COMPRESSION TEST TO BE DONE. IF COMPRESSION TEST RESULT IS GOOD, THEN TECH WILL RECOMMEND REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND RE-TEST. ALSO, SINCE VEHICLE HAS 100,000 MILES +, AND WE ARE CURRENTLY HAVING MISFIRES, TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION COILS WITH SPARK PLUGS IF THEY ARE DONE, THEN RE-TEST. AS FOR INEFFICIENT CATALYTIC CONVERTER BANK 1 CODE, TECHNICIAN ADVISES CUSTOMER TO KNOW THE PRICE OF REPLACEMENT OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE RELATED AIR/FUEL RATIO SENSOR AND OXYGEN SENSOR, BUT TO NOT DO IT YET, AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS POSSIBLY FOULED DUE TO MISFIRING. TECH RECOMMENDS DO COMPRESSION TEST, IF GOOD, THEN SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, CLEAR CODES THEN SEE IF INEFFICIENT CAT CODE COMES BACK BEFORE REPLACING IT.
  • INSPECTED AND FOUND COOLANT LEAKING FROM HEATER HOSES HARD LINES WHERE THEY CONNECT TO THE REAR OF THE ENGINE. RECOMMEND REPLACE HOSES/LINES, AND RELATED, THEN PRESSURE TEST AGAIN.
  • NO CHARGE FOR PRESSURE TEST IF REPAIRS DONE HERE AT THIS SHOP – PER JOSE
  • ************* IMPORTANT NOTE: WHILE WATER PIPE ASSEMBLY IS OUT, INSPECT AND CLEAN PART OF ENGINE WHICH THESE PIPES GO INTO AND SEAL INTO. IF NO FAULT WITH ENGINE SIDE THEN REASSEMBLE. IF ANY CORROSION OR DAMAGE TO ENGINE SIDE, THEN ADDITIONAL PARTS AND LABOR WILL BE NECESSARY *********************
  • IF NO OIL IN HOLES AND COMPRESSION TEST IS GOOD, THEN REINSTALL SPARK PLUGS AND REPLACE COILS. IF OIL INTRUSTION IS FOUND, THEN VALVE COVERS WILL REQUIRE RESEALING OR REPLACEMENT, AT ADDITIONAL COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR. IF COMPRESSION IS NOT GOOD, THEN MECHANIC WILL BE STOPPING AND FURTHER EVALUATION, DIAGNOSIS, WILL BE NECESSARY. Compression test results Cly #1=170 Cly #2=155 Cly #3=170 Cly #4=160 Cly #5=160 Cly #6=160 Note: oil present @plugs/tubes no current repair procedure available at this time
